DAMP SURVEYOR ANGLE

Traditional buildings need
a building-led approach.

Angle contains a distinctive mix of traditional cottages, historic buildings and later homes within a coastal Pembrokeshire village setting.

Much of the historic settlement falls within the Angle Conservation Area. Older properties within and around the village can incorporate traditional masonry, solid wall construction, historic mortars and rendered finishes whose moisture behaviour differs substantially from modern cavity-wall construction.

Angle's position on the peninsula also means that external exposure can be particularly important when investigating dampness. Wind-driven rain, weathered masonry, roof and chimney details and vulnerable junctions may all contribute to moisture penetration.

Changes to traditional buildings through cementitious render, gypsum plaster, replacement floors, insulation or changes in ventilation may also alter the way moisture moves through and evaporates from the original building fabric.

Our approach is to investigate the building as a whole rather than diagnose dampness from a single moisture-meter reading.

SURVEYING IN ANGLE

What we consider
when investigating damp.

Damp is the symptom. The purpose of the survey is to identify the building conditions and moisture mechanisms capable of producing it.

01

Traditional Stone & Solid Walls

Older properties may incorporate solid masonry, traditional mortars and historic finishes that require careful interpretation when assessing moisture behaviour.

02

Coastal Exposure

Wind-driven rain and prolonged exposure can affect external walls, chimney details, roof junctions and other vulnerable parts of the building envelope.

03

Ground Levels & Drainage

External ground levels, surface water, gullies and drainage arrangements are considered where moisture is identified at the base of walls.

04

Render & External Finishes

Cracking, weathering, debonding and inappropriate modern coatings can contribute to rain penetration or restrict evaporation from traditional masonry.

05

Ventilation & Condensation

Internal humidity, heating, ventilation and surface temperatures are considered where condensation or mould may be contributing to the moisture problem.

06

Timber & Floor Voids

Suspended timber floors, sub-floor ventilation and concealed timber elements are considered where persistent moisture may increase the risk of deterioration.

WHY INDEPENDENCE MATTERS

We investigate the cause.
We don't sell the treatment.

DF Damp Consultancy is an independent surveying consultancy.

We do not install chemical damp-proof courses, sell waterproofing systems, undertake tanking or carry out remedial building works.

Our recommendations are therefore based on the evidence identified during the survey rather than the opportunity to sell a subsequent treatment contract.

Where repair is justified, we explain why. Where further investigation, drying or monitoring is more appropriate than immediate treatment, we can recommend that instead.
