Valley properties need

Glanamman forms part of Cwmamman in the upper Amman Valley, an area whose built environment developed significantly alongside the former coal-mining and tinplate industries.
Properties in and around the settlement include older housing alongside later residential development. Construction can therefore vary from traditional solid masonry and suspended timber floors to later cavity-wall construction.
Older buildings may also have been altered using cement render, dense pointing, impermeable coatings, dry-lining or replacement floors. These changes can affect how moisture enters, moves through and evaporates from the original building fabric.
The valley setting also makes the relationship between the building and its surrounding ground important. Sloping sites, external levels, drainage arrangements and surface-water pathways are considered where moisture affects lower walls or floor junctions.

Paving, gullies, drainage arrangements and surface-water pathways are assessed where water may collect or discharge close to the building.
External Walls & Exposure
Masonry, render, pointing, openings and exposed elevations are assessed for defects capable of allowing rainwater into the building fabric.
Roofs & Rainwater Goods
Roof coverings, chimney stacks, flashings, gutters and downpipes are assessed where defects may increase moisture loading to walls, ceilings and roof structures.
Timber & Ventilation
Suspended floors, accessible timbers, sub-floor ventilation, internal humidity and cold surfaces are considered where prolonged moisture or mould is present.
