Properties within and around the village vary considerably in age and construction. Older buildings may incorporate solid masonry walls, traditional finishes and suspended timber floors, while later homes may use cavity-wall construction and different methods of moisture control.
In traditional buildings, later alterations can be particularly important. Cement render, dense pointing, impermeable coatings, dry-lining and replacement floors can alter how moisture moves through and evaporates from the original fabric.

Cement render, dense pointing, modern coatings, dry-lining and replacement floors are considered where they may restrict drying or change moisture behaviour.
Timber & Ventilation
Suspended floors, concealed timbers, sub-floor ventilation and internal humidity are considered where prolonged moisture could contribute to timber deterioration or mould growth.
