Extensions and later alterations are another common consideration. Changes to floors, windows, insulation, heating and ventilation can alter the way moisture and heat move through a building, particularly where old and new construction meet.

Damp is the symptom. The purpose of the survey is to identify the building conditions and moisture mechanisms capable of producing it.
Mixed-Age Housing
Older properties, established estates and modern housing can incorporate very different wall, floor and roof construction, requiring the investigation to reflect the age and fabric of the individual building.
Cavity Construction
External walls, cavities, insulation, openings and associated detailing are considered where defects or concealed conditions may contribute to moisture transfer through cavity-wall construction.
Ground & DPC Levels
Paths, drives, patios and external ground levels are assessed in relation to damp-proof courses, wall bases and floor construction where moisture is present at low level.
Extensions & Alterations
Junctions between original and later construction, replacement floors, internal linings, insulation and altered openings are considered where building changes may influence moisture behaviour.
Rainwater & Drainage
Gutters, downpipes, gullies, roof drainage and surface falls are assessed where rainfall may repeatedly wet masonry or accumulate close to the building.
Ventilation & Condensation
Internal humidity, extract ventilation, background ventilation, heating patterns and thermal bridging are considered where mould or surface condensation forms part of the concern.
